There appears to be a distortion of the concept of the Alpha Male. The use of the term was based on animal studies that looked at dominant behaviors among various species. It was misused regarding wolves when research showed that wolves were organized by family rather than by a dominant male or female. Popular culture has unfortunately interpreted Alpha Male in the animal world as applicable to human behavior, with dominance perceived as a virtue and the pathway to achieving one’s goals.
Elon Musk has amplified a theory that only “alpha males” can be trusted to make good decisions, and should therefore be the ones to participate in democracy. Elon posted this on X

Unfortunately, Musk is not the only high-powered individual who subscribes to this bogus theory that alpha men are superior to so called low T or Beta men. This distorted view of masculinity serves as a rationale for dominance, patriarchy and misogyny.
The question is whether or not a man expressing his warrior archetype can take action, confront, command and motivate without resorting to dominant or bullying behavior. Certainly, the warrior acting in the light can meet his goals without resorting to the shadow.
Light (I do)– change agent, protector, disciplined, assertive, leader
Shadow (I take) – violent, bully, uses aggression as primary strategy, sadistic
Musk and his fellow travelers perpetuate the Alpha male myth of superiority. Any man regardless of his T level can be a warrior in the light and not have to resort to aggressive bullying to feel comfortable in his masculinity.

One response to “The Myth Of The Alpha Male”
Yes, so the shadow is the less developed/immature male king archetype. Once learning and winning with this immature way of being reinforces the continued use of the immature way of shadow behavior.
Failure of the parents, teachers or mentors to guide the young person to not win with such behaviors without consequences. Allows the behaviors to grow and can become dominant winning formulas.
